The materials of Wooden's OFFCUTS collection use surplus wood from a carpentry shop - for example, the boxes are made from waste pieces of wooden beds. The wood used by Wooden is responsibly grown and certified, and using waste materials makes it even more responsible. Pine for BLACKBIRD is grown in the northern part of Finland, close to the polar circle. The place where the wood was grown is known all the way to the plot.
The focus of the OFFCUTS product series is not only waste materials, but challenging the familiar ways of working in the craft industry. The wooden objects in the series are manufactured in accordance with the Digital Craftsmanship concept, i.e. as automatically as possible using machining robots and minimizing the amount of handwork. Thanks to the varying colors and wood grain patterns characteristic of the material, each object is still unique.
